Hugh de Payens And The Eight Knights

So as you learned in the Welcome Post, HUGH DE PAYENS, my ancestor, who later created THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR was studying with his abbot in France when he discovered a very interesting reference in the scroll he was reading. He shared the finding with his cousins and several close friends.

What he discovered required him to go the JERUSALEM; however he needed the blessing of the bishop of the Roman Church in his area.

Without sharing his finding, he told the bishop that since he was a member of the royal family as a knight and the Roman Church, he and eight of his friends and cousins, who were also knights, wanted to go to Jerusalem to offer their services protecting wealthy Europeans making their journey to the HOLY LANDS. This was granted by the bishop. All wealthy Europeans were strongly recommended to make this journey by the Roman Church.
